- Knock twice on the door. If someone says, "Busy," choose another stall.

Sign out on the classroom log before going to the restroom.
Put the restroom pass around your neck once.
Sign in on the classroom log when retuning from the restroom.
Only one student from class in the restroom at a time.
Make sure toilet paper is in the toilet. Flush once.
Wash your hands. Press once for water and press twice for soap.
Wash your hands for 15 seconds.
Shake the excess water off of your hands in the sink.
Pull paper towel with both hands. If you do not see a paper towel, turn the red knob toward you.
Put the trash in trash cans.
Return to class promptly.
Report lack of supplies or problems to your teacher immediately.

Restroom Supervision Responsibilities for Staff
- Have students sign in and out of class before using the restroom.
- If you are assigned duty, be at your station one minute before the students are sent out to recess.
- Greet the students as they enter, so that they will know you are on duty.
- Consider both the boys' and girls' restrooms your responsibility.
- Monitor the number of students in the restroom at one time.
- Monitor the noise level (level 0-1).
- Deal with problems as they arise.
- Remind students calmly and quietly of the rules if they misbehave.
- Hold students to a 2-3 minute time limit.

Encouragement Procedures
Be visible and make sure students know you are actively supervising the restrooms. Supervisors are responsible for BOTH girls' and boys' restrooms.
Helpful Phrases:
- "Is everything OK in there? Do you need anything?"
- "You have 5 seconds before I come in. I'm counting down… 5, 4, 3, 2, 1."
- "Good morning/afternoon! You have 2 minutes to use the restroom."
Progressive Consequences
- Ask students to review C.L.A.W.S. posted in the restroom area.
- Ask students to describe the correct behavior.

Staff Responsibilities for Teaching Restroom Policy
At the beginning of the school year, after breaks, and as needed use the lesson plans provided to teach students about this policy. Demonstrate the proper procedure by escorting students to the restroom and modeling the expected behaviors.
